Kara's turns ONE!

Kara turned one last month and we had a party for her Saturday, August the 9th. Kirk Park here in the Highlands seemed like the perfect location to celebrate this momentous occasion with family and friends. The weather had been great for a month leading up to the party, but then as we got closer to the date the forecast was calling for rain on Saturday, and then back to sunny weather on Sunday. How unfair is that! Everyday I checked the weather and said a prayer that the weather would be nice for Kara's party, and everyday the forecast was for rain Saturday. At least we had the gazebo to keep us dry if it did rain... and maybe it would only rain in the afternoon so the playground would be dry. Because who wants to sit on a wet swing! Well Saturday morning we woke up to rain. Boooo! So we said a final and fervent prayer that the weather would clear up for Kara's party and started getting ready. By 11am as we drove up to the park it was still cloudy, but not raining and quite windy! Well it was a bit chilly and we were wearing jackets at first, but the wind was an answer to prayer because it blew away enough of the clouds to reveal a beautiful sunny day. Not to hot, not too cold, just perfect! The children had a great time running around and playing at the park and with the "Fun to Be One" beach ball. It was amazing to me to watch them, even though some of them had just met they looked like old friends as they played together. Kara had a little cake of her own, but I think she got a bit of stage fright with everyone watching her and only ate one bite. She got some fun presents, thanks everyone! She's already starting to love jewelry and dress up so, one of the presents from us was a Disney Princess dress up jewelry set, which she immediately put on and wore around for the rest of the day. We packed up and left the park at 2pm, Kara was partied out and crashed in the car on the long 2 minute drive home. When she woke up (almost 2 hours later!) she ate some chocolate cake. Also around that time it started to rain, really RAIN! The street outside was flooded. So, yay for prayers being answered that it rained AFTER Kara's party.

I'm a little sad she didn't like the cake I made her. I liked it. I think I will have to try it again but modify it Karina style
