The beginnings of a milestone

About a month ago we bought Kara her own potty. No plans for formal potty training yet, just wanted her to start geting comfortable with it. Well we've noticed that she usually squats when she's going to fill her diaper. So, Saturday when I saw her squating and I took off her pants and diaper and set her on her potty. She looked at me with a confused look, then got up, walked a few feet and started squating aging. Again I sat her back on her potty expliaing that is for her to go "poo-poo" (as she says it). She stayed sitting for about a minute and whne she got up she had "poopoo'd" in her potty. I clapped and cheered, which made her clap and cheer. When Jeff came out of the shower I told him and he clapped and cheered. Today we did it again, where I saw her squating and helped her get her diaper off and sit on the potty. This time she seemd to know better what was going on and stayed sitting until she was finished. Again I clapped and cheered and let her know how good it was that she used her potty. sorry if this is TMI for anyone, or not very interesting, but its VERY exciting for us. Especially with another baby on the way it would be so great if she could be done with diapers before September. So, if anyone has any tips or suggestions of books or videos that teach little ones about using a potty that would be super.

18 months!

Our Kara turned 18 months old on Saturday. She goes to nursery at church and I get to actually pay attention in Sunday School and Relief Society again. YAY! Monday she went for her check-up and she didn't have to get any shots! Another YAY! And, she doesn't have to come back again for a whole 6 months, even then she only has to get one shot. I know they keep her from getting sick, and I'm grateful we live where vaccines are readily available, but it's still hard to watch her get poked. She weighs in at 21 lbs, 11 ozs. (10-25%) and is 32 inches tall (50-75%). she does everything she is supposed to do and then some. The nurse asked if she was saying three words and I thought she meant three word phrases so I said "no". She looked at surprised and asked again, "she doesn't say three different words?" To that I laughed and responded that she says wayy more then three words. Most commonly heard are: "bye" (she waves when she says it,)"poo-poo" (when shes getting her diaper changed, "mom" and "mommy", "daddy", "no" "doggie", "cheese", "ni-night", "doll", "bie" (like pie with a "B" means bike). She loves climbing, coloring (she gets very serious when she colors), dancing, stickers, pouring the milk out of her cup, and stashing things in the bread maker.

Homemade dinner rolls

Going to borrow another great idea from someone else's blog. The first person to comment on this post will get fresh baked dinner rolls made from Sarah Carlson's recipe. While I don't claim to be as expert at making them as she is (after all its HER recipe) I get rave reviews when I make them and they always disappear quickly!

10 years together, 10 things I love about you...

Friday was our 10 year anniversary. We went out to Black Angus to celebrate together. I gigantic thank you to Amy Kertesz our ANGEL babysitter for watching Kara so we could enjoy some alone time! To further commemorate our 10 years together here are 10 reasons I love you honey!

1.I love that you make me laugh all the time.
2. I love that you have a different perspective on the world then I do and you help me see things I would otherwise have missed.
3.I love when you open jars with tight lids for me.
4. You can fix just about anything that's fixable.
5. I love that you love music.
6.When I was frustrated by my curly hair that has a mind of its own you reminded me how much you like my curly hair.
&. I love that on Mother's Day you write me a letter that always makes me cry (in a good way).
7. I love that you watch musicals with me.
8. I love that you like to cook.
9. When I was pregnant with Kara and we lived it that small, drafty house with no dishwasher and being in the kitchen made me feel sick I 'm grateful that you were willing to wash so many dishes.
10. I love that you like taking walks together.

Movie quote game

I like to "borrow" good ideas, so I'm borrowing this one from Elisa. Bellow are quotes from 15 movies that I really like. If you know the movie leave the number of the quote and the name of the movie in the comments. No cheating!

1. “You're 5 foot nothin', 100 and nothin', and you have barely a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 2 years. And you're gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody but yourself. And after what you've gone through, if you haven't done that by now, it ain't gonna never happen. Now go on back.”

2. “Well, we thought you had some hidden depth,” “Oh no, that’s where you’ve always been wrong; I really am this shallow,”

3. “What are you doing here?” “I could ask you the same question.” “Do you normally walk alone in cemeteries at night?”

4. “Now if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you can come up with another clever idea to get us all killed - or worse, expelled."

5. “How many kids you got in there?.”

6. “Kay, hold still right there. Now, just imagine you're weightless, in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by tiny little seahorses.”

7. “What is this thing? I mean, it serves no useful purpose for there to be a bunch of chompy, crushy things in the middle of a hallway. No, I mean we shouldn't have to do this, it makes no logical sense, why is it here?”

8. “If there's one thing I know, it's never to mess with mother nature, mother in-laws and, mother freaking Ukrainians”

9. “Well, insertion of bread into that so-called toaster produces no toast at all, merely warm bread! Inserting the bread twice produces charcoal. So, clearly, to make proper toast it requires one and a half insertions, which is something for which the apparatus doesn't begin to allow! One assumes that when the General of Electric built it, he might have tried using it. One assumes the General might take pride in his creations instead of just foisting them on an unsuspecting public.”

10. “This could be the worst disaster NASA's ever faced.” “With all due respect, sir, I believe this is gonna be our finest hour.”

11. “Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!”

12. “Oh, but darlin', I thought you said we should think of it as ‘our money’. Just a guess: The words *joint checking* are flashing in your head right now.”

13. “I'm gonna teach you the meaning of pain.” “You like pain? Try wearing a corset.”

14. “I am in a dress, I have gel in my hair, I haven't slept all night, I'm starved, AND I'm armed! Don't MESS with me!”

15. “I don't want to be beautiful in my own way. I want to look like these people.” “Oh those aren't people honey, those are models.”

Kara's News

Kara wants everyone to know that she is going be a BIG SISTER around September sometime. To celebrate she got the "Sister's Room" set for her doll house. When we got home from the store the she took sister doll straight to the doll house and gathered her with the rest of the dolls (dad, mom and baby) in a big group hug. Sorry I don't have a picture, but it was very sweet to see her hugging the four dolls together.
